John Terry has been installed as favourite to succeed Steve Bruce as boss of Aston Villa.
The 36-year-old joined Villa in the summer and was made captain by Bruce
However, the pre-season Championship favourites have suffered a disappointing start to the season with just one point from the opening three league games.
And Bruce admits some of his players are struggling with the task of being able to play for a club the size of Villa.
“The enormity of Aston Villa comes into play and unfortunately at the moment I am not getting the best out of them,” said Bruce.
“Some of them have shied away from it and have found it difficult to get established and find the form which is the reason why we have brought them to Aston Villa.
“They have to grasp the nettle and go forward with it. They have to improve and I have help them improve.”
Now Bruce’s position is coming under pressure with speculation that owner Tony Xia could axe him, and should he do so – then Terry has already been named as favourite
PaddyPower now rate him 7/2 to take over from Bruce.
Spokesman Paddy Power said: “It could be a case of captain, leader, legend, manager for John Terry if Steve Bruce is sacked.
“Personally, I think he’ll be great for team and fan morale. He’ll be generous with the plus ones to the Christmas party, and dress like a fan on the touchline – in full kit.”
