The Duke on York and the Weekend

Let’s take a look at some of the better action on Friday and Saturday.

The Betway Yorkshire Cup on Friday at 3.30 should be a lovely race to watch. Clever Cookie has marvellous form at York and goes well fresh, so I think at 8/1 he could be attractive for an each-way play.

Dartmouth is the best horse on official ratings, but I’ve got it wrong more times than right with him, so I’d be more tempted by Muntahaa who is improving all the time. John Gosden’s in belting form too. If Her Majesty

The Queen were to miss out with Dartmouth, she might well have a winner in the Fairway Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday.

Call To Mind won by a neck on debut at Newbury and the Derby-entered colt has a big chance of making it two from two. He’s currently around 5/2 and that seems more than fair.

The big race of the weekend is at Newbury, the Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes. I’m a big fan of Ribchester and he has looked like a horse who will continue to improve with age.

He won a Group 1 in France last season and only lost to Minding by half a length in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot on Champions Day. I think he could be a real force as a miler this season.

Somehow is in good form, but this is a tougher test for her.

At his best Galileo Gold would have a massive chance but he lost the winning thread at the back-end of last season and I would prefer to see him return to form before considering betting on him again. He might prove me wrong, but I’ve got niggling doubts about him. Ribchester gets my vote.
