Thierry Henry is red hot favourite to be appointed manager of Aston Villa.

The Belgium assistant coach, has been linked with the Villa job since the summer – but at that time the club’s new owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Eden decided to stick with Steve Bruce.

However, they sacked Bruce last week and they are looking at new candidates with Henry the leading figure.

Ex-Manchester United chief David Moyes, Brentford boss Dean Smith, former Chelsea assistant Rui Faria and Shakthar Donetsk boss Paulo Fonseca have all been linked, but Henry looks to be the man they want.

And with former Villa captain John Terry reportedly being lined up to be number two to Henry, it seems Sawiris and Eden are close to getting their new managerial team.
