Tottenham Hotspur are ready to snap-up Xherdan Shaqiri by matching his release clause of just £13.5million.

The Swiss star was a target for Spurs in January, and the interest remains and Spurs love the idea of landing a player of Shaqiri’s calibre for such a small fee.

Tottenham are also huge admirers of Wilfried Zaha and Anthony Martial. but both would cost well in excess of £50million.

A host of Premier League clubs are chasing Shaqiri, who has confirmed his desire to remain in England.

He told Aargauer Zeitung: “It is no secret that I will leave the club. I think the [Premier] league is perfect for me. I would love to stay in England but I don’t want to rule anything out. It’s the best league with the best players.”

The 26-year-old is now set to go to the World Cup finals with Switzerland, knowing he is set to remain in the Premier League.

I understand Spurs want at least two new attacking options for head coach Mauricio Pochettino and Shaqiri looks increasingly like being one of those.

Bookmakers currently rate Liverpool favourites to land the Swiss ace, with BetVictor currently having them odds-on at 1/2.
