Tottenham listening to Toby Alderweireld offers

Tottenham Hotspur are talking with clubs about the sale of Toby Alderweireld, including Manchester United.

United have been in regular contact with Spurs in recent months, talking about both Alderweireld and team-mate Danny Rose.

Belgian stopper Alderweireld has just two-years left on his current deal, but there is a clause in his contract which means he can leave for less than £25million next summer – so now Spurs want three times that for him this summer.

They also want over £50million for Rose, and they would then use those funds to bolster other areas of their squad – including new contracts.

However, as it stands United have baulked at their price for both players. Indeed they are so far away from Rose’s value, that they are looking at other options with Juventus’ Alex Sandro now their leading option at left-back.

At centre-half, Jose Mourinho has confirmed to the club’s hierarchy that Chris Smalling can leave, whilst he would also sanction likely loan exit for Victor Lindelof – who only arrived last summer, with newly promoted Wolves keen on him.

But United would first need to tie up a new top-line centre-half an they are turning to Alderweireld, as Mourinho’s first option Raphael Varane looks unlikely to be made available by Real Madrid.

United do not want to pay more than £60million, but talks have currently stalled as Spurs think Alderweireld’s other suitors such as Paris Saint Germain, Barcelona and Chelsea, might be willing to meet his price tag.

29-year-old Alderweireld is understood to have told Tottenham that he wants to leave, and like with Rose – Mauricio Pochettino has sanctioned his exit.

Bookmakers currently have United as firm favourites, listing them as 6/4 favourites to seal a deal.

BetVictor’s Head of ante post Football Michael Triffitt commented: “If the rumour mill is to be believed Tottenham and Belgium defender Toby Alderweireld may well be swapping London for Manchester with United strong favourites at 6/4 to secure his signature this summer.

“The player was available and supported at 6/1 in early April and the Red Devils have attracted 80% of bets in this transfer market now. Barcelona at 4/1 and PSG at 6/1 have also seen interest and would both offer an eye catching alternative to Northern England but that pair may have to act quickly to scupper the move to United.”
