Unai Emery confirmed as new Arsenal boss

Arsenal have confirmed the appointment of Unai Emery as their new head coach.

The former Paris Saint German and Sevilla coach emerged as the number one candidate after the club’s hierarchy went cold on appointing former midfielder Mikel Arteta – who had agreed terms on the move.

However, the club ultimately decided they could not go with an inexperienced coach, so instead turned to Emery  – who recently left PSG, despite guiding them to a domestic treble.

Emery told Arsenal’s website: “I am thrilled to be joining one of the great clubs in the game.

“Arsenal is known and loved throughout the world for its style of play, its commitment to young players, the fantastic stadium, the way the club is run.

“I’m very excited to be given the responsibility to start this important new chapter in Arsenal’s history. I have met Stan and Josh Kroenke and it’s clear they have great ambitions for the club and are committed to bringing future success. I’m excited about what we can do together and I look forward to giving everyone who loves Arsenal some special moments and memories.”

Bookmakers believe that Emery is likely to bring some success, he is 11/4 with PaddyPower to win a trophy in his first season.

They also offer 5/1that the Spaniard will have left the Emirates by the end of December – and it’s odds-on at 1/2 that Arsenal fans will unveil an ‘Emery Out’ banner before the year is out.

Spokesman Paddy Power said: “Do Arsenal fans ever stop moaning? The evidence suggests not. Their latest issue is with their new manager who hasn’t even been appointed yet.

“We reckon it’s extremely likely that the airplane banner manufacturers will be receiving a call soon.”
