United confident of Alderweireld switch

Manchester United are confident they will agree a deal for Toby Alderweireld before Thursday’s Premier League transfer deadline.

United landed top midfield target Fred earlier in the window, but since then they have struggled – only signing young Portuguese full-back Diego Dalot and third-choice goalkeeper Lee Grant.

United boss Jose Mourinho wanted to more faces in by Thursday and one of those is a centre-half, and Alderweireld has long been his top choice – but the two clubs have failed to agree terms despite being in talks for months.

Harry Maguire was also looked at by United, whilst they also like Barcelona’s Yerry Mina – who has attracted attention from a host of Premier League clubs.

But Alderweireld – who wants to quit Spurs – is the man they want, and sources close to the Belgian have told me that he is desperate to move to Old Trafford.

Spurs had wanted £75million for the 29-year-old – who has two-years left on his current deal, but a clause means he can leave next summer for just £25million.

Now a deal looks to be approaching conclusion for around £60million and Bookmakers are of that belief.
