United continue hunt for Tottenham stars

Manchester United have again spoken to Tottenham Hotspur about Danny Rose, as they continue to struggle to negotiate a deal for Toby Alderweireld.

United are keen on securing Alderweireld – who has made it clear to Spurs he does not want to sign a new deal, which means they are now looking to sell him before a clause in is deal set at just £25million kicks-in next summer.

“I have another two years contract. Tottenham decides about my future. Of course I have my own idea. But that is not the case now,” said Alderweireld.

“The past season was tough. But I’m glad that I could play the last four matches. That means that I am ready for the World Cup.”

Tottenham had been asking £75million, whilst United did not want to go over £45million but talks are progressing and United remain confident of landing the 29-year-old – who is currently with Belgium ahead of the World Cup finals – but as it stands the two clubs are a long way apart.

They are still talking with Spurs about Rose, a player they have targeted since last season, and the England international has not hidden his desire to return to his native North of England.

However, United again are not happy with the asking price – with Spurs initially wanting £50million, and The Red Devils have since moved onto Juventus’ Brazilian full-back Alex Sandro, who looks to be a cheaper alternative to Rose as it stands.

In return Tottenham have also spoken to United about Anthony Martial, and again they are actively pursuing a deal but I understand that all three deals would be reliant on each other, so although an exchange deal could happen – they don’t have to be connected.

United are still very much firm favourites to land both players – BetVictor make Alderweireld 1/2 to move to Old Trafford and Rose is Evens – whilst Martial is 3/1 to move to the Capital with Spurs.

BetVictor’s Head of ante post Football Michael Triffitt said: “Two Tottenham defenders remain firmly on the radar of Manchester United and are still been backed to make a move North.

“Toby Alderweireld is heading to the World Cup with Belgium but the Red Devils seem intent on securing his signature and punters have backed him from an opening 6/1 into a present 1-2 and fans of the Manchester club will be disappointed if this transfer doesn’t now conclude.

“England defender Danny Rose has also attracted attention from the red side of Manchester and he has shortened to even money from 3/1 to make the journey up the M6. If United do capture the pair it will significantly improve their defence and current quotes of 6/1 for the title may come under attack.”
