United held in Russia

Europa League favourites Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw by Russian outfit FK Rostov in the first-leg of their last 16 clash.

United boss Jose Mourinho was hugely critical of the pitch before hand, but his side settled well and were leading just after the half-hour mark.

Armenia star Henrikh Mkhitaryan was the scorer on his return to the first-team following injury and he fired home after good work from Marouane Fellaini and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

United looked to be cruising and were comfortable, but from almost nothing the home side level almost ten-minutes into the second-half with Aleksandr Bukharov finishing clinically past United’s Sergio Romero.

That really got the home side going and their fans, and it took some excellent defensive work from the likes of Macros Rojo and Danny Blind to keep United level.

But the game ended with a draw and away goal, which leaves Mourinho’s men firm favourites to progress into the last eight.
