It was memorable night for Manchester in the champions league as City secured progress into the knockout phase, whilst United recorded a famous win in Turin.
United were trailing archetypal wonder-strike from their former beau Cristiano Ronaldo, but like at Bournemouth at the weekend – they left it late with Juan Mata equalising before an own goal from Alex Sandro won it for them.
“A point or three would have changed little for Juventus, but three points makes a big difference to us,” said Jose Mourinho.
“It is a big victory for us, not just because we needed the points but because it was away from home against an amazing team.”
Bookmakers were equally impressed and United’s Champions League odds were slashed from 50/1 to 25/1.
City showed their strength as they netted six goals for successive game as they followed up their 6-1 thrashing of Southampton with an arguably even more impressive 6-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk.
City were already favourites for the Champions League but their odds were cut further into 7/2 – but one thing is for sure, the weekend’s Manchester derby has been teed up perfectly.
