Man United pushing for Alvaro Morata

Manchester United will increase their bid for Alvaro Morata over the weekend.

Real Madrid are open to a deal for their striker, but Spanish sources claim they want over £70million for the 24-year-old.

United are not willing to go to £70million but sources close to The Red Devils have confirmed that they are ready to offer £60million after seeing an offer of just over £50million rejected.

United have clearly decided that the 24-year-old is their top striking target after a deal for long-term target Antoine Griezmann failed.

Morata has stated that he is willing to fight for his place at the Santiago Bernabeu, despite starting just 14 league games last term – although he showed his talent with 15 goals.

It was Morata’s first season back at Madrid, after they re-signed him from Juventus – but it remains to be seen if he will have another season with them.

Morata has said he wants to fight for his place – even though, sources close to him insist he is ready to move on.

“I want to be playing and to be important to the squad, particularly next year when there is the World Cup,” Morata told Tele5. “But I want to fight for my place here, I would be crazy to leave Real Madrid.

“It’s hard to imagine going back to Italy, despite my experience in Serie A being extraordinary. I would like to stay at Real Madrid, and the only club for me in Italy are Juventus.”

Chelsea, AC Milan and Paris Saint Germain are understood to be looking closely at Morata, but United are the ones who are pushing forward and trying to finalise a deal.

Bookmakers are now convinced that Morata is on his way to Old Trafford, and all of them are making him odds-on to seal a move – SkyBet list him at 1/3.
