United still heading Toby Alderweireld chase

Manchester United remain firm favourites to land Toby Alderweireld this summer, but it is understood some of Europe’s top clubs have also made moves.

30-year-old Alderweireld saw his deal extended last year when Tottenham took up an option on him – but part of that deal meant that he would also be allowed to leave the club for just £25million.

United have long been keen on the Belgian international and they remain so, indeed they are believed to be confident of snaring the defender.

However, it is understood the likes of Paris Saint Germain, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid are all readying contract offers.

With the £25million release clause, it means any club landing Alderweireld is landing a defender that could be worth twice that on the open market – hence the interest.

Whilst on international duty, the player himself has refused to talk abut his future.

“I am very happy at Spurs, so we will see what the future brings,” he said.

“I still feel very fit. I think I played a lot of minutes this season so I showed that I am fit – I don’t feel 30, I feel younger.”

“So as I said, I am very happy and I just try to watch game-by-game. This season there is a lot to play for so I will give my best for that.”

Bookmakers certainly believe Alderweireld will end up at United, with BetVictor currently making him Evens to move to Old Trafford.
