United title win before Liverpool?

Gary Neville believes there is every chance that Manchester United could win the Premier League again, before Liverpool win it for the first time.

Liverpool came within just one point last season, being edged out by Manchester City and although they did win the Champions League, a lack of a league title at Anfield since 1990.

United have not won the Premier League since Sir Alex Ferguson left in 2013 and although they are considered huge outsiders at the moment, Neville still thinks his former side could beat Liverpool to it.

“Liverpool, City, Tottenham – all these clubs have had poor recruitment policies over the last 25-30 years at times, so United are going through one at the moment,” he said on Sky Sports.

“Eventually they’ll stumble across the right recruitment system, the right recruitment people. We’ll get a great manager – hopefully that’s Ole – and they’ll start to win again. That’s going to happen, I can guarantee you as clear as day Manchester United will win again, they’ll win again no problem. They’ll win a league – probably win the league before Liverpool in my opinion, I’m not being disrespectful.”

Bookmakers have now priced United up, putting them at 5/1 to beat Liverpool to the crown.

The Anfield side are strong 4/9 favourites to taste success first, while neither team winning the Premier League between now and the end of the 2024/25 campaign is 11/4.

bet365’s Steve Freeth: “The Red Devils have made a cracking start to the new season, albeit being slightly flattered by the 4-0 Chelsea scoreline, but we think that Liverpool are better equipped to land the title before Neville’s beloved Man Utd get their hands on the trophy again.”
