Unsettled Lewandowski attracting English interest

Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal have all enquired about Robert Lewandowski’s situation, after it emerged he was unsettled at Bayern Munich.

All three Premier League giants have other attacking options they are well down the line with, but the news of Lewandowski’s possible availability has peaked their interest – along with Paris Saint Germain.

The 28-year-old bagged 30 goals last season, but that was not enough to claim the Bundesliga Golden Boot with Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang pipping him to the prize by just one goal.

He told the Polish Super-Express: “I was not really happy with how my team helped me. I was annoyed and disappointed with the team’s attitude.

His agent Maik Barthel addded: “Robert told me that he got no support and that the coach (Carlo Ancelotti) gave no call to help him win the top-scorer title in the last game.

“He was disappointed as I have ever seen him before.”

Now, Lewandowski’s agents are reportedly looking at options around Europe, and they have learned that Chelsea, Man Utd, Arsenal and PSG are all keen.

However, the fact Lewandowski only signed a new contract in December – means his cost would easily be around £100million and well in excess of the current world transfer record.

And that could be an issue given the other targets being looked at. Chelsea are locked in talks with Everton over Romelu Lukaku, Man Utd are trying to tie up a deal for Alvaro Morata and Arsenal are looking to finalise a deal for Alexandre Lacazette.

It now remains to be seen if any of those clubs would try and turn their full attentions to Lewandowski.

Bayern have since insisted that he does not want to leave them and in a statement said: “Lewandowski’s contract expires 2021, he signed it not long ago. Lewandowski does not want to leave Bayern. There are no talks with other clubs and there won’t be any.

“If other clubs negotiate with long time contract players they risk a FIFA penalty.”

We spoke with BetVictor about the Polish superstar and their Head of antepost Football Michael Triffitt told us: “Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski has started to be linked with a number of clubs during this transfer window.

“Whether these have any actual substance remains doubtful but BetVictor make English champions Chelsea 8/1 favourite in our opening show to tempt the Polish international over the water to England.

“European champions Real Madrid are 10/1 along with Manchester United, who are probably linked with most of the players in the World these days of course!

“Its 16/1 bar but it would still be surprising if the player wasn’t still at the Allianz Arena when the season begins.”
