Villa leapfrog Boro to become favs after Terry deal

Aston Villa are the new favourites to win the Championship next season after their odds were cut following the signing of former England captain John Terry.

Villa fended off competition from local rivals Birmingham City, as well as a host of Premier League clubs to land the 36-year-old – who left Chelsea at the end of the season.

Terry has dropped down to the Championship as he did not want to play against his former club Chelsea in the top-flight.

On the back of signing Terry, Villa have now seen their odds cut to 7/1 from 8/1 and they have gone ahead of previous favourites Middlesbrough – who are 15/2 in the betting.

bet365’s Steve Freeth “He might be 36, but a signing of the calibre of John Terry is enough for us to make Villa favourites for the Championship.”

As well Villa as beating rivals Birmingham to his signature, Villa are 1/3 to top their near neighbours and 6/4 to finish as top dogs on the Midlands patch.

Big spending Villa endured a disappointing campaign last season finishing in 13th but bet365 rate Steve Bruce as a 1/2 chance to see out the campaign – it’s 6/4 that he doesn’t.
