Weekly Golf Preview – RBC Canadian Open

See below as we run through the tournament for you including facts, odds and picks from our own golfing professional Cliff Jackson and 32Red’s Jack Milner.

RBC CANADIAN OPEN

  • Hamilton Golf & Country Club, Ontario
  • First staged in 1904
  • Current champion is Dustin Johnson

OVERVIEW: A truly historic even, only The Open and US Open are older tournaments still been played on the tour than the Canadian Open. At one point winning the Open, US and Canadian Open’s was considered the triple crown of golf.

The tournament now plays an important part in the calendar and as of 2019 it is placed a week before the US Open, the third major of the season, so is naturally an important part of the preparation, and as so the field is very strong. Dustin Johnson is favourite and defending champion, but there are a host of big games in contention – including world number one Brooks Koepka.

The pro’s point of view…

Our resident golf expert is Cliff Jackson. Cliff is a leading youth coach and PGA professional at the famed Seaton Carew Links – one of the oldest courses in the world.

The Canadian Open is a fantastic event, and that field is a great build up to the US Open. I think that Dustin Johnson will put up a good defence.

However, I wonder if we could see a first home winner for well over 50-years, with Adam Hadwin the man who could break that record.
