Weekly Golf Preview – Travelers Championship | BMW International

See below as we run through the tournament for you including facts, odds and picks from our own golfing professional Cliff Jackson and 32Red’s Jack Milner.

TRAVELERS CHAMPIONSHIP

  • TPC at River Highlands, Connecticut
  • First staged in 1952
  • Current champion is Bubba Watson

OVERVIEW: One of the most popular tournaments amongst the players, they certainly enjoy their trip to Conneticut and the fans love it too, as it is only second after the Phoenix Open in terms of crowd attendance.

Known for being popular with big hitters – Bubba Watson is the defending champion, but it is little surprise to see world number one Brooks Koepka as favourite – but this is a high quality field with the likes of Patrick Cantlay, Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas on show along with European heavyweights Tommy Fleetwood and Francesco Molinari.

BMW INTERNATIONAL OPEN

  • Golfclub Munchen Eichenried, Munich
  • First staged in 1989
  • Current champion is Matt Wallace

OVERVIEW: A popular European event, the BMW International Open has a good history of attracting a good field. It is unusual as it alternates the hosting duties between two courses – the Gut Larchenhof and the Munchen Eichenried.

In-form Englishman Matt Wallace is the defending champion and comes in as one of the favourites, alongside Sergio Garcia and Matt Fitzpatrick – both of whom showed up well at Pebble Beach in the US Open last week. Home hopes will firmly be on Martin Kaymer – who won the event in 2008.

The pro’s point of view…

Our resident golf expert is Cliff Jackson. Cliff is a leading youth coach and PGA professional at the famed Seaton Carew Links – one of the oldest courses in the world.

Some great events on both sides of the Atlantic this week, the golfing calendar ready does look to be spot on at the moment.

The Travelers Championship is a great event with the fans, and often this is the home of a big hitter and it is hard to ignore Brooks Koepka, whilst I also like the look of Brandt Snedeker. And one other I will be having a little go at is newly turned professional Viktor Hovland – who played so well at Pebble Beach and is a wonderful talent.

In Germany and a really think Matt Wallace will put up a great defence of his title, but I think Martin Kaymer on home soil is a very attractive prospect.
