BMW PGA CHAMPIONSHIP
OVERVIEW: The PGA Championship is widely regarded as the flagship event of the European Tour – given it is played at their headquarters at Wentworth. As of 2019, the event has moved from May to September, due to the change in the world calendar which saw the US PGA Championship moving.
The PGA always brings in a good field and 2019 is no different with a fantastic field from around the world, with Rory McIlroy firm favourite on home soil, and it is an event he has won before back in 2014. Defending champion is Italian star Francesco Molinari.

A new position in the calendar but a familiar star-studded line-up for The European Tour’s flagship tournament with a wealth of talent flying-in for the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth. Rory McIlroy heads the market as the 11/2 favourite after capping-off a Player of the Season campaign on the PGA Tour by landing the Tour Championship and Fedex Cup in last month’s finale at East Lake. McIlroy famously the won tournament in 2014 amid a flurry of media having ended his engagement to tennis player Caroline Wozniacki but has disappointed at the venue thereafter, and I’m hoping the young guns fine at Wentworth.
British Masters form has proven handy since it’s reappearance in 2016 and I expect this year’s winner Marcus Kinhult to go well at around the 100/1 mark. The 23-year-old showed tremendous tenacity to break his duck on tour and after missing six weeks through to injury returned with excellent efforts in Sweden and Austria; T20 and T12 respectively. The Swede finished T12 here 18 months ago and looks to big, despite being as big as 125/1 when first chalked-up on Monday.
Another relative novice with a bright future is Scotland’s Robert McIntyre who was somewhat unlucky when losing by a shot to Paul Casey two weeks ago in Germany. Another 23-year-old who should thrive on tour, McIntyre looks to have a superb game for Wentworth with plenty of distance off the tee and a wonderful short game to boot. ‘Bob’ is another with form in the British Masters, finishing second to Kinhult in Southport, and looks over-priced at 80/1.
The last fancy is Guido Miglozzi who was a massive eye-catcher when finishing with a flurry the week before last in Germany and will relish the big-stage in Wentworth. Miglozzi is already a two-time winner on tour and would have challenged Paul Casey et al at the Porsche Masters were it not for a treble-bogey on the back-nine when in contention. The Italian ranks T20 for average birdies per round, T32 for distance off the tee and should, be really competitive if able to capitalise on the reachable par 5s.

The PGA has moved, but hopefully the weather does not play a part as it is a wonderful event.
The field is brilliant and I really hope the cream rises. I am going to stick with Viktor Hovland a a good each way threat at 28/1 whilst I really think Paul Casey can continue his good form of late and push for the title too.
