32Red’s Sponsorship manager Jack Milner delivers a weekly verdict on each tournament.
Last week’s two headline selections, Eddie Pepperell and Jorge Campillo, played brilliantly around Lahinch during last week’s Dubai Duty Free Irish Open and I see no reason to desert the pair entering this week’s Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club.
Pepperell in particular impressed in Ireland, leading the tournament at the halfway stage but faltering during the final round. Eddie bogeyed two of the first four holes, and was immediately under pressure from both Rafa Cabrero-Bello and John Rahm quick out of the traps.
Nevertheless, Eddie Pep was making a return from injury, not sighted at a tournament since the PGA at Bethpage Black in May, and will clearly improve for the reappearance. He attracts at the 28/1 mark, and similarly remains value for The Open Championship – cut to 50/1 from 100s with 32Red after last week’s performance.
The same can be said about Campillo, who will appreciate any forecast wind and rain, having shown tremendous form in gusty conditions to win in Morocco earlier in the season. A poor third round cost him any chance of winning last week in Ireland however, a T7 finish saw him achieve a third consecutive Top 20 finish and he remains over-priced at 45/1 with 32Red.
Recency bias has seen Scandinavians Alexander Bjork and Lucas Bjerregaard both too big, with the latter massive for a Dunhill Links winner at 125/1 with 32Red. The Dane
Bjork meanwhile, finished T19 here 12 months ago and boasts similar form in tricky conditions. He was T9 in the Trophee Hassan won by Jorge Campillo and was second to Eddie Pepperell in last year’s British Masters. A reproduction of his best should see him in there with a chance.
