Wenger and Arsenal confident over contract rebels

Arsene Wenger remains hopeful that he and Arsenal can persuade Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain all to sign new deals at the club.

Wenger has remained insistent over the futures of his three contract rebels, with all three players out of contract next summer.

Ozil’s deal is progressing, whilst both Sanchez and Chamberlain have seen little movement in months.

Sanchez wants to leave, and Manchester City are still keen on taking him in this window with the Chilean keen on working with Pep Guardiola.

Arsenal are ready to offer him a mouthwatering deal worth £300,000-a-week, and Wenger is hopeful that he could yet commit his long-term future to them.

“I want Alex to stay at the club and be one of the big players of the future at this club,” said Wenger of Sanchez, who is fit again for the first time this season and could feature against Liverpool this weekend

“He is one of the players the team has to be built around in the future. Personally I want him to commit to the club and be one of the carriers of the values of our team.

“He is very focused and happy. The fact that he goes into the last year of his contract does not mean we have no chance to extend it.

Like Sanchez, Chamberlain’s future remains anything but certain – with Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United all keen, but again Wenger is trying to convince him to stay.

“I want to keep my best players”

“I want to keep my best players,” added Wenger.

“We invested a lot of time and money in players like Chamberlain and for me he has a responsibility to the club.”

Arsenal are very much standing firm on all three players, and sources close to the club have told me that they firmly believe the trio could all sign new deals.

Bookmakers agree that Ozil and Oxlade-Chamberlain will sign new deals and both are odds on at 5/6 and 8/11. but Sanchez is still 7/2 to put pen-to-paper again with The Gunners.

We spoke to PaddyPower about the situation and their spokesman Lee Price told us: “We’re odds on that Sanchez and Ozil refuse to sign new contracts at Arsenal this window.

“But, in better news, Arsenal fans, we make the Ox odds on to stay. Wait, sorry, I said better news, didn’t I?”
