West Ham United’s search for a new boss is close to being concluded, according to David Sullivan.

Sullivan, who is the majority shareholder at the club, stated has revealed they are close to naming their new manager, after David Moyes’s departure was confirmed by the club on Wednesday.

Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez is their number one target – as we revealed on Monday – but they are looking at a number of options – but one candidate no longer in the running is Shakthar Donetsk chief Paulo Fonseca – who has signed a new deal.

Former Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini, now managing in China, and recently departed Paris Saint Germain chief Unai Emery are also on their radar as Sullivan wants a new manager in place before the end of the month.

Sullivan said: “I would like to reassure our supporters that we have left no stone unturned in selecting the individual we believe is the right man to take West Ham United forward.

“We have followed a process that is progressing entirely to plan and are now very close to reaching an agreement.

“This is an exciting time for our football club. We are preparing to appoint a manager who has a proven record of success at the highest level of the game.”

Bookmakers have Pellegrini and Fonseca as joint favourites ahead of Benitez.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Moyes and Allardyce have both been sent packing but it’s unlikely the pair will swap clubs, with a whole host of blockbuster names heading the market to take over at the London Stadium.”
