The Open begins this week at Royal Birkdale and promises to be one of the most wide open majors in living memory.
Some bookmakers are starting their pricing at 16/1 the field, with Americans Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler leading the market.
BetVictor spokesperson Charlie McCann said: “When Dustin Johnson won the US Open last summer there was talk of a Johnson dynasty – yet here we are less than 12 months on and we are betting 16/1 the field in the Open Championship.
“History suggests Birkdale can throw up a bit of a surprise with Ian Baker-Finch champion back in 1991 and it would be no surprise if the layers got another result on the Lancashire coast this weekend.”
Welcome to @TheOpen! Birkdale looks amazing in the sunshine, impressive spectator village as well, looks bigger scale than usual #TheOpen pic.twitter.com/7h8llUccn6
