Hosts Russia only need a draw from their final group to secure top-spot over Uruguay in Group A.
Russia and Uruguay both stand on six points and have already booked their passage through to the last 16.
Russia’s wonderful eight-goal haul means they are some way ahead of Uruguay in goal-difference terms, means the South Americans need to win to knock the hosts off top spot.
And Russian coach Stanislav Cherchesov is firmly focused on landing top-spot.
“Uruguay are a completely different proposition, their level is completely different. They play in a different style. We need to sort out our squad and our tactics in order to get a result,” said Cherchesov.
Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez is looking forward to facing the hosts.
“Now we have the opportunity to play the World Cup hosts, play a team who have reached the playoffs, too, and who will be supported by a great number of fans. We’ll try to put in improved performance against Russia,” he said.
Egypt and Saudi meet in Volgograd, knowing both are already eliminated.
