World Cup Qualifying Preview: Friday

Wales and Republic of Ireland continue to battle it out on Friday evening for the runner-up spot in Group D.

With Serbia all but securing top-spot with two games to go, it is a fight between Wales and Ireland for the runner-up spot.

The Welsh are in pole position for second place, given they are a point ahead of the Irish with their last two games over the next week.

Wales visit Georgia in the opener, but are without Garteh Bale – but boss Chris Coleman insists they can cope.

“Gareth Bale missing from any team is a loss, don’t get me wrong, but that’s not to say what we’ve got is not enough, because it is good enough to compete against anybody. That’s the attitude we’ll have, no doubt,” he said.

Whilst Wales are favourites to qualify, Ireland remain hopeful. “We have two games left and we can still make it,” said the Republic boss Martin O’Neill.
