United pushing ahead with Lindelof deal

Manchester United are set to push ahead and complete a deal for Benfica defender Victor Lindelof.

United have been tracking the Swede for over 12-months and was one of the names first mentioned by Jose Mourinho when he talked with the club’s hierarchy about new defensive recruits.

A deal was close to being completed in January, at which point United had already agreed terms with the player – as TheGamblingTimes.com confirmed in February.

The 22-year-old has been tracked by other clubs since January with Paris Saint Germain showing a strong interest, but sources have told me that United have always been his first choice and he has refused to even discuss terms with other suitors.

Mourinho sees Lindelof as a step up from the likes of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones, and he wants the deal put to bed this month.

Lindelof is currently with the Swedish national side, but could be in England early next week to finalise the last details of the move.

I understand an initial deal will be worth around £35million but the overall deal will push through the £40million barrier with add-ons.

The bookmakers are also in agreement about Lindelof’s future and SkyBet make him 1/3 on to finalise a move.
